1) How does it work?

Widomaker WirelessDSL service is a radio-based multipoint-to-multipoint wireless broadband connection, comparable in speed and price to DSL or cable service in the area.
2) How long does it take to get up and running?

Currently from 2 to 5 weeks from the date of order submittal. We expect this timeline to get much faster as the product matures, and our goal timeline is 2-5 working days.
3) What do I need?

You'll need a computer with a 10Base-T - RJ45 Ethernet card or a HomePNA 1.0/2.0 Network card. We'll provide the customer premise equipment (the WirelessDSL router).

4) How different is it from Widomaker/Verizon DSL?

From the user perspective, the service itself will be very similar - comparable speed and price. However, WirelessDSL avoids the need for telephone cable, which means faster installation and much better availability.

In addition, the WirelessDSL end-user equipment includes IP routing, which means that you can share your access with multiple computers at your location using a hub or switch that you provide. Additionally, HomePNA is supported, so you can use your home phone wiring to carry Internet access from the WirelessDSL base station to rooms throughout your home. HomePNA adapters are needed for each PC, and can be obtained at retail locations such as BestBuy or CompUSA.

5) Is it secure?

The radio network uses Nokia's security to prevent customers from evesdropping on each other, and spread spectrum frequency hopping to avoid signal interception. Customers cannot evesdrop on eachother in the WirelessDSL network.
6) Do I need visibility from my location to a "tower site"?

No, the WirelessDSL service is a self-healing network of intelligent multi-point routers. You simply need visibility to a few other connected customers in order to obtain service.
7) Why must I leave the Network/Power Unit always plugged in, even if I'm not using my computer?

Your router may be forwarding traffic for other subscribers, so it's important that it's always on. If you unplug your Network/Power Unit, some other subscribers in your neighborhood may lose their connection to the Internet. Note that the network is multi-point, so if these subscribers can see another site, traffic would be automaticly re-routed, so this isn't likely, but for the overall availability and health of the network, all subscribers should leave the equipment plugged in.
8) If I have to keep the wireless router plugged in all of the time, is that going to affect my electricity bill?

The wireless router consumes about one fourth the power of one 60W light bulb. So, the affect on your electricity bill will be minimal.
9) Can cordless phones interfere with the WirelessDSL router, and if so, how is this resolved?

The Wireless Router may cause interference to (and interfere with) other devices operating in the 2.4 Ghz frequency range. Siemens and other cordless phones are the most commonly used devices in this radio spectrum. If you suspect that your cordless phone and wireless router are interfering with each other, do the following:

Check that your phone operates in the 2.4 Ghz range frequency range. If not (many use 900 Mhz), it cannot be causing interference with your wireless router.

If your phone operates in this frequency, move the cordless phone base station to the lowest floor possible in your home, or if you live in a one-story house, try to place the base station directly below the wireless router's location on the roof.

If the interference occurs only when you're using your cordless phone outside in the yard, avoid using it outside at the same time when someone is accessing the Internet with the computer.

If you've done all of the above and there is still interference from your cordless phone, please contact Widomaker's support for assistance.

10) What about my Home Owner's Association?

The WirelessDSL hardware will be installed in accordance with FCC regulatons. However, we are working with HOA's in the area that we are providing service in. This means that most likly we already have an agreement with the HOA in your area.
