This morning (10 July, 2003), Widomaker customers experienced difficulties
while attempting to connect to our modem pool starting at approx 10:45 am
until approx 3:00 pm. During this time, attempting to connect to our modem
pool was more likely to produce a busy signal than a successful connection.

Widomaker, like most of the Route 5 corridor of James City County, was
experiencing a power outage that started at approx 9:30 am. After our
batteries ran down we were able to keep about 100 modem lines operating
through a rather creative use of automotive DC power inverters. If you
happened to come by our offices, you would have seen several trucks in the
parking lot with the hoods up and extension cords running out of them into the
building.

This is when Bill Caulford of Williamsburg Lock and Key came to our rescue.
Bill's van is a mobile locksmith shop. And with his van, Bill was able to
power an additional 400+ modem lines. The additional lines Bill made
available were able to accommodate almost all connection requests until our
main power was restored at approximately 5:30 pm. Bill, thank you very much.
Your assistance proved to be invaluable.

Please accept my apologies for this service outage. As many of you know we
are in the midst of moving major portions of our network from our offices near
Busch Gardens to our Jamestown Road location. Unfortunately, the majority of
our battery power is still at the Mclaws Circle location and that proved to
be our undoing today.

As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please let me know
and I will do my best to address them.
