Widomaker will be performing router and equipment maintenance and upgrades this weekend between Friday and Sunday (September 7, 2007 - September 9, 2007). We will try to perform the majority of the maintenance during off peak time periods, however, some of the maintenance must be performed during the daytime and evening so that all necessary staff and 3rd party venders are available.
As a result of the maintenance and upgrades there will be brief periods that the network will be unavailable. We expect these periods to be short in duration (approximately 5 minutes). We will update this notice with more information during the course of the maintenance window. We will also try to list the date and time of each brief maintenance outage. This is to assist customers who may be having unrelated trouble so they know if a particular maintenance outage affected them or if they need to contact us and/or continue troubleshooting.
This weekend's maintenance and upgrade window includes router software upgrades, redistribution of network resources, and troubleshooting of intermittent network issues.
One of the issues being addressed by the maintenance is an intermittent problem a subset of our DSL users have occasionally experienced. For some DSL users who do not keep their computer connected all of the time, when they disconnect and try to reconnect, they sometimes would have trouble logging in and receive a Windows PPPoE error 772. For the affected users, usually after several attempts the login would succeed. Occasionally, however, it would require intervention by our network operations technicians. Customers using routers setup to stay connected constantly did not seem to experience this intermittent problem.
We apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience this maintenance may cause, but it is necessary to allow for future growth, the increasing number of new broadband customers (such as high speed DSL), and increased network capacity and reliability.
Be aware that during this maintenance window, dialup Internet access will be the least affected and should be available during most of the maintenance window. All DSL accounts include dialup access for backup or traveling purposes. Please contact our office if you need help setting up a backup dialup connection. Local dialup numbers are available in Williamsburg (757-345-9436), Newport News (757-369-9436), Virginia Beach/Norfolk (757-321-9436), Gloucester (804-824-9436), and Richmond (804-269-9436).
