Widomaker Security Notices Home Page

Welcome to the Widomaker Security Notices page. All computer users should keep themselves up to date with current security issues regarding the safe use of their computers and the Internet. From time to time Widomaker will post or link to information on a security issue that may affect our users. Check back here, in addition to other appropriate security related sites, frequently. Windows users should visit the Windows Update site regularly to check for "Critical Updates" provided by Microsoft. Best practices include configuring Windows to automatically check for updates (Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98) and have your antivirus software automatically install virus definition updates. Microsoft has additional recommendations.

MOTD & Current Security Notices

E-mail Security

*Eudora 4.x, 5.x, or Pro users should disable (uncheck) the "Use Microsoft Viewer" option (Tools/Options/Viewing Mail). See the Eudora KB document 1612HQ.
*Outlook Express users should upgrade to the latest version (6.0), available in the Software section of this web page, disable Active Scripting, and visit Windows Update for the latest Critical Updates.
*All e-mail users should run a good quality Anti-Virus program updated with the latest virus data files. One of the local computer shops can install an Anti-Virus program for you. In addition, e-mail users should be cautious when receiving file attachments, even from friends. If you were not expecting the attachment, ask the sender what it is. Following these and other safe e-mail practices will help prevent the spread of viruses and trojan horse programs.
