STATEMENT OF FAITH

  • THE FOUNDATION - That the book currently known as the Bible, consisting of the Scriptures of Moses, the prophets, and the apostles, is the only source of knowledge concerning God and His purposes at present extant or available in the earth, and that the same were wholly given by inspiration of God in the writers, and are consequently without error in all parts of them, except such as may be due to the errors of transcription or translation.

    TRUTH TO BE RECEIVED

  • 1. That the only true God is He Who was revealed to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, by angelic visitation and vision, and to Moses at the flaming bush unconsumed and at Sinai, and Who manifested Himself in the Lord Jesus Christ, as the supreme self-existent Deity, the ONE FATHER, dwelling in unapproachable light, yet everywhere present by His Spirit, which is a unity with His person in Heaven. He hath, out of His own underived energy, created heaven and earth, and all that in them is.

  • 2. That Jesus of Nazareth was the Son of God, begotten of the Virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit, without the intervention of man, and afterwards anointed with the same Spirit, without measure, at his baptism.

  • 3. That the appearance of Jesus of Nazareth on the earth was necessitated by the position and state into which the human race had been brought by the circumstances connected with the first man.

  • 4. That as the first man was Adam, whom God created out of the dust of the ground as a living soul, or natural body of life, "very good" in kind and condition, and placed him under a law through which the continuance of life was contingent on obedience.

  • 5. That Adam broke this law, and was adjudged unworthy of immortality, and sentenced to return to the ground from whence he was taken - a sentence which defiled and became a physical law of his being, and was transmitted to all his posterity.

  • 6. That God, in his kindness, conceived a plan of restoration which, without setting aside His just and necessary law of sin and death, should ultimately rescue the race from destruction, and people the earth with sinless immortals.

  • 7. That He inaugurated this plan by making promises to Adam, Abraham and David, and afterwards elaborated it in greater detail through the prophets.

  • 8. That these promises had #reference to Jesus Christ, who was to be raised up in the condemned line of Abraham and David, and who, through wearing their condemned nature, was to obtain a title to resurrection by perfect obedience, and, dying, abrogate the law of condemnation for himself, and all who should believe and obey him.

  • 9. That is was this mission that necessitated the miraculous begettal of Christ of a human mother, enabling him to bear our condemnation, and, at the same time, to be a sinless bearer thereof, and, the#refore, one who could rise after suffering the death required by the righteousness of God.

  • 10. That being so begotten of God, and inhabited and used by God through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, Jesus was Emmanuel, God with us, God manifested in the flesh -- yet was, during his natural life, of like nature with mortal man, being made of a woman, of the house and lineage of David, and the#refore a sufferer, in the days of his flesh, from all the effects that came by Adam's transgression, including the death that passed upon all man, which he shared by partaking of their physical nature.

  • 11. That the message he delivered from God to his kinsmen, the Jews, was a call to repentance from every evil work, the assertion of his divine sonship and Jewish kingship and the proclamation of the glad tidings that God would restore their kingdom through him, and accomplish all things written in the prophets.

  • 12. That for delivering this message, he was put to death by the Jews and Romans who were, however, but instruments in the hands of God, for the doing of that which He had determined before to be done -- namely, the condemnation of sin in the flesh, through the offering of the body of Jesus once for all, as a propitiation to declare the righteousness of God, as a basis for the remission of sins. All who approach God through this crucified, but risen, representative of Adam's disobedient race, are forgiven. The#refore, by a figure, his blood cleanseth from sin.

  • 13. That on the third day, God raised him from the dead, and exalted him to the heavens as priestly mediator between God and man, in the process of gathering together from among them a people who should be saved by the belief and obedience to the Truth.

  • 14. That he is a priest over his own house only, and does not not intercede for the world, or for professors who are abandoned to disobedience. That he makes intercession fro his erring brethren, if they confess and forsake their sins.

  • 15. That he sent forth apostles to proclaim salvation through him, as the only Name given under heaven whereby men may be saved.

  • 16. That the way to obtain this salvation is to believe the Gospel they preached, and to take on the Name and service of Christ, by being thereupon immersed in water, and continuing patiently in the observance of all things he has commanded, none being recognized as his friends except those who do what he has commanded.

  • 17. That the Gospel consists of "The things concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ."

  • 18. That the "Things of the Kingdom of God" are the facts testified concerning the Kingdom of God in the writings of the prophets and apostles, and definable as in the next 12 paragraphs.

  • 19. That God will set up a Kingdom in the earth, which will overthrow all others, and change them into "the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christ."

  • 20. That for this purpose God will send Jesus Christ personally to the earth at the close of the times of the Gentiles. and that he may send the christ who has been appointed for you even jesus he must remain in heaven until the time comes for god to restore everything as he promised long ago through his holy prophets

  • 21. That the Kingdom which he will establish will be the Kingdom of Israel restored, in the territory it formerly occupied, namely, the land bequeathed for an everlasting possession to Abraham and his Seed the Christ by covenant.

  • 22. That this restoration of the Kingdom again to Israel will involve the ingathering of God's chosen but scattered nation, the Jews their reinstatement in the land of their fathers, when it shall have been reclaimed from "the desolation of many generations" the building again of Jersalem to become "the throne of the Lord" and the metropolis of the whole earth.

  • 23. That the governing body of the Kingdom so established will be the brethren of Christ, of all generations, developed by resurrection and change, and constituting, with Christ at their head, the collective "Seed of Abraham," in whom all nations will be blessed, and comprising "Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, and all the prophets." and all in their age of like faithfulness.

  • 24. That at the appearing of Christ prior to the establishment of the Kingdom, the responsible namely, those who know the revealed will of God, and have been called upon to submit to it*, dead and living-- obedient and disobedient--will be summoned before his judgement seat "to be judged according to their works," and "receive in body according to what they have done, whether it be good or bad."

    * Clause 24 was clarified in Jan. 1898. Because of the teaching error that one may avoid being raised for judgement by #refusing baptism.

  • 25. That the unfaithful will be consigned to shame and "the second death", and the faithful, invested with immortality, and exalted to reign with Jesus as joint heirs of the Kingdom, co- possessors of the earth, and joint administrators of God's authority among men in everything.

  • 26. That the Kingdom of God, thus constituted, will continue a thousand years, during which sin and death will continue among the earth's subject inhabitants, though in a much milder degree than now.

  • 27. That a law will be established which shall go forth to the nations for their "instruction in righteousness," resulting in the abolition or war to the ends of the earth, and the "filling of the earth with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea."

  • 28. That the mission of the Kingdom will be to subdue all enemies, and finally death itself, by opening up the way of life to the nations, which they will enter by faith, during the thousand years, and in reality at their close.

  • 29. That at the close of the thousand years, there will be a general resurrection and judgement, resulting in the final extinction of the wicked, and the immortalization of those who shall have established their title under the grace of God to eternal life during the thousand years.

  • 30. That the government will then be delivered up by Jesus to the Father, Who will manifest Himself as the "All-in-All" sin and death having been taken out of the way, and the race completely restored to the friendship of the Deity.

  • DOCTRINES TO BE REJECTED

  • Reject 1. That the Bible is only partly the work of inspiration--or if wholly so, contains errors which inspiration has allowed.

  • Reject 2. That God is three persons.

  • Reject 3. That the Son of God was co-eternal with the Father.

  • Reject 4. That Christ was born with a "free life."

  • Reject 5. That Christ's nature was immaculate.

  • Reject 6. That the Holy Spirit is a person distinct from the Father.

  • Reject 7. That man has an immortal soul.

  • Reject 8. That man consciously exists in death.

  • Reject 9. That the wicked will suffer eternal torture in hell.

  • Reject 10. That the righteous will ascend to the kingdoms beyond the skies when they die.

  • Reject 11. That the devil is a supernatural being.

  • Reject 12. That the Kingdom of God is "the church."

  • Reject 13. That the Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ merely.

  • Reject 14. That Christ will not come till the close of the thousand years.

  • Reject 15. That the tribunal of Christ, when he comes, is not for judgement of saints, but merely to divide among them different degrees of reward.

  • Reject 16. That the resurrection is confined to the faithful.

  • Reject 17. That the dead rise in an immortal state.

  • Reject 18. That the subject-nations of the thousand years are immortal.

  • Reject 19. That the Law of Moses is binding on believers of the Gospel.

  • Reject 20. That the observance of Sunday is a matter of duty.

  • Reject 21. That baby sprinkling is a doctrine of Scripture.

  • Reject 22. That "heathens," idiots, pagans, and very young children will be saved.

  • Reject 23. That man can be saved by morality or sincerity, without the Gospel.

  • Reject 24. That the Gospel alone will save, without obedience to Christ's commandments.

  • Reject 25. That a man cannot believe without possessing the Spirit of God.

  • Reject 26. That men are predestined to salvation unconditionally.

  • Reject 27. That there is no sin in the flesh.

  • Reject 28. That Joseph was the actual father of Jesus.

  • Reject 29. That the earth will be destroyed.

  • Reject 30. That baptism is not necessary to salvation.

  • Reject 31. That a knowledge of the Truth is not necessary to make baptism valid.

  • Reject 32. That some meats are to be refused on the score of uncleanness.

  • Reject 33. That the English are the ten tribes of Israel, whose prosperity is a fulfillment of the promises made concerning Ephraim.

  • Reject 34. That marriage with an unbeliever is lawful.

  • Reject 35. That we are at liberty to serve in the army, or as police constables* , take part in politics, or recover debts by legal coercion. * "or as police constables" was added in 1917.

    Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve? Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them. Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass? What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider. Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet. He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south? Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high? She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place. From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off. Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

    JOB 40:1-24
    Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it. Then Job answered the LORD, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him? Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee. Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens. The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

    Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.     As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.     He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land. And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there. And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him, My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross. And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them? He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
