Migraines and tannins
Wines that should be okay:
The lighter color the wine, the better. Slightly green or very clear wines are usually safe. Most pinot grigios are fine, though some German pinot gris do have tannins. Chablis are often fine. Sake, rice wine, is fine. Too much alcohol of any sort, however, can cause headaches for reasons other than tannins.
Wines to avoid:
All red, rose and blush wines have tannins
Chardonnay, Semillon from Australia and New Zealand
Graves, Sauternes from Bordeaux
Chablis, Cote d'Or, Chalonnais from Burgundy
Chardonnay, some Sauvignon Blanc; other wines on an experimental basis from California
A few traditional makers use oak casks for fermentation and initial ageing from Champagne
Pinot Blanc; Pinot Gris from Germany
Some white Hermitage from Rhone
Charodonnay, Vin Sanso from Italy
Traditional-style white Rioja spends several years in oak from Spain
