I have worked as a mental health professional since 1977 and have been licensed as a professional counselor in Virginia since 1989. I believe that you are the expert on you. My job is to work as a collaborative partner with you to help you find your answers. I use Client Directed Outcomes Informed scales to help measure progress towards the goals you set and to assess our therapeutic relationship. I work with you as an individual. I am skilled in solution focused, narrative, cognitive behavioral, motivational interviewing, and other techniques, both Western and Eastern.
I earned my BA in Psychology and Philosophy from the College of William and Mary, my M.Ed. and Ed.S. in Counseling from the School of Education of the College of William and Mary, and my Doctorate in Psychology from California Southern University. I served in public sector mental health for over 30 years. I provided counseling to a wide variety of people in individual, couples and group settings. In addition, I provided crisis counseling and managed disaster services mental health. I have been trained in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, and I am a provider and a trainer for Psychological First Aid. I also managed and agency mental health graduate student practicum and intern program, and still am a provider of supervision for individuals seeking a license as a professional counselor. I am trained in taiji chuan, qi gong, and yoga. I belong to the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, and am the chair of the Professional Development Committee of the Virginia Counselors Association. I serve on the steering committee of the Virginia Clinical Counselors Alliance. I am the secretary of the Genesis Local Human Rights Committee. I moved into private practice in 2009.
