Hammer was one of the first to report results for G12. He was in a catch-up position and needed to post a great score to put the pressure on the front running Admiral. The Hammer came through, almost "running the table" at Gomel, with a near perfect 9.8 score. Shepherd, reporting shortly after, followed with an excellent 9.5 performance. The Admiral, patiently waited until the last day to complete the final challenge. Meanwhile, at the Polar King's headquarters, the Gauntlet computer calculated that the Admiral would need more than 88% of the victory points in G12 to claim the title "Champion of the Gauntlet". Hammer had indeed placed a choke hex on the Swabbie Knight. With this disturbance in the Gauntlet universe, the Admiral sent his minions to war one last time......................

CONGRATULATIONS
FROM THE POLAR KING
You’ve made it to the final challenge of the Gauntlet.
This is a 46 turn scenario which will require
planning, patience and creativity.
The number of turns was field tested and should
provide the winning commander enough time to capture all of the victory
locations. One equipment reminder - Inflatable rafts can only be
used once per unit and don’t forget to ignore the message "Unit leaves
map" when you deploy those rafts.
Best of Luck,
Polar King
Now on to the briefing..*********************************************************************
September 1, 1941
Belorussia
As a result of his initial success in Barbarossa, Guderian has just been awarded the Oak Leaves by Hitler to pin with his Knight’s Cross. Hitler also presents Guderian with the news that he is to change his Barbarossa plan and pivot his forces 90 degrees southward towards the Ukraine’s wheatfields and oilfields. In a conciliatory gesture, Hitler delivers the message in the hands of his personal attache, Major Kidel, who is also there to take a command role with Guderian’s 2nd Panzergruppe.
Standing in the way of Guderian is General Uli Domotov and elements of the Russian Third Army stationed in a defensive positon around the financial center, Gomel (located betweeen the Dnieper and Sozh rivers just east of the Pripet Marsh).
Guderian’s desires to bypass the town are fleeting as Kidel reveals that Intelligence has confirmed the Russians failure to evacuate substantial gold reserves stored at the Kasmir complex in Gomel. Unknown to the Germans, Stalin has ordered Domotov to "resist with all assets without giving ground until the river convoy arrives and removes the gold". There will be no retreat and any setbacks will be immediately counterattacked to regain desired defensive positions.
Now brave lads, join your old friend Kidel in the last hurrah.
"L’audace, l’audace, toujours l’audace!
